Allow me to introduce myself
I’ve fallen down an Almost Famous 20th anniversary content rabbit hole and am completely fan-girling while listening to the Origins podcast deep dive into the making of the movie. It’s brought me way back to that space when I was so unbelievably passionate about music, obsessed with this movie about loving music so much you build your life around it, and taking steps to do the same.
I was thinking about how much I miss MySpace, and the feeling of community we created sharing songs that perfectly expressed our emotions. Status updates and quizzes were added bonuses and helped us learn more about our friends and the bands we loved. I didn’t want to fill out a generic MySpace Quiz, but I wanted to do something similar to share my passions and interests at this point in my life vs that bright eyed high school girl. I am terrible at just picking one, but I’d love if you would tell me yours in your comments.
Favorite Music: 90s country, 2000s Pop, Yacht Rock, Musicals. This playlist is my desert island mix.
Favorite Movies: Almost Famous (Untitled) is #1, quickly followed by That Thing You Do, The Princess Bride, and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Let’s just say I’m obsessed with John Hughes, Nora Ephron and the action trilogies of my childhood.
Favorite Concerts: Dolly Parton at the Hollywood Bowl- some of my favorite stories came from this night, Garth (always), Kenny Chesney (every Boston show, this Bridgestone show), The George Strait Country Music Festivals, Elton John/Billy Joel Face to Face Tour, Cam/Eric Church at Red Rocks, Lucie Silvas/Brothers Osborne/Chris Stapleton at Red Rocks, Sara Bareilles at The Ryman, Alabama at The Ryman, Old Dominion at C2C in London, Dick Fantastic & The Fabulous Foreskins every time.
Favorite Shows: Friends, Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Grace & Frankie, Sex & The City, Entourage, The Office, and Seinfeld.
Favorite Musicals: Aida, Rent & Wicked
Favorite Books: I devour autobiography audio books (musicians and comedians are my favorite), chick lit, and deep dives into historical places and events.
Favorite Season: Fall
Favorite Flowers: Bluebonnets, Queen Anne’s Lace, Anemones, Tulips, Hot Pink Peonies
Candle: Spring: Capri Blue Volcano, Summer: Paddywax Sea Salt Winter: Paddywax Charles Dickens
Food: I always want Italian, Dim Sum, Japanese, Mexican, Greek, seafood and my mother’s Pho.
Coffee: basic AF, but I have a terrible addiction to the Starbucks Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew. I dont sleep for days after I have one, but they have to be lacing those with crack.
Tea: Sonic Unsweet Iced Tea with blackberry and fresh lemon, or a Lychee Black Bubble Tea 1/3 sweet :)
Drink: Vodka Martini with a twist or Bulleit Rye Manhattan
Dessert: I’m not a dessert person- but I’m pretty sure it’s humanly impossible to pass on a Beverly Hills Hotel Polo Lounge Souffle, Milkbar Pie, or a Levain Cookie.
City: New York City. Between the restaurants, musicals & museums, I can’t get enough. Paris and it’s architecture and art are right behind.
Beach: Coronado Beach- but mostly for its proximity to the Hotel Del Coronado. I’m also obsessed with Cambria’s Moonstone Beach.
Nerdy Interests: Art, Harry Potter, Pop Culture Trivia,
Games: Cards Against Humanity, Euchre/500, Masterpiece, and Monopoly Deal (not to be confused with real Monopoly which is my least favorite game)
Sport: I’m not a sports girl, but you can talk me into going to hockey or baseball games. I cheer for the Red Sox and the Predators if I’m with someone that wants to watch them play.
Color: Turquoise/blues (I’m all about black and white with a pop of color: turquoise, pink, mustard yellow, or red.)
Dream Dinner Party Guests: (Dead or Alive) Dolly Parton, Julie Andrews, Kristen Bell, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, Anthony Bourdain, George Clooney, Chris Evans, and Graham Norton. I’ll bring in a red couch and we’ll pretend we’re on Graham’s show.
Bucket List Trips: Safari in Africa, Antarctica Cruise, Northern Lights in Iceland, Italian Food & Wine tour
Travel Style: I loathe checking a bag and do everything in my power to carry on for under 2 weeks. I pretty much only wear black and white to help my packing, and I’m far less precious about it than you would think. It takes me almost no time to get ready in the morning and I rarely eat breakfast unless , so I pretty much wake up and bounce out the door for a very full day. I research each destination and figure out what I’m interested in seeing, throw it on a google map and figure out what makes sense to visit by proximity. I try to take into account when things will be busiest and pre-book tickets at really touristy things to avoid the lines. I do a lot of planning, but I also like to leave time for suggestions from locals, and things that catch my eye. I’m also really open to waking up on a random Saturday morning, getting in the car and just going somewhere interesting for the day/weekend. I make travel wishlists in google maps, contacts on my phone, and in google docs.
Biggest Regret: The Eagles have been a bucket list show since I was little. I saw them perform at the Grammy’s once, but I never got to see a full set with the full band. They are the soundtrack of my childhood and it makes me sad to think of the thousands of shows I’ve seen, I can’t cross that one off the list.
What are the most photographed things in your camera roll: concerts, clouds, sunsets, flowers, family, food, travel, skylines, art ( Van Gogh, Monet, Chihuly, neon, murals, linear patterns) architecture (Frank Gehry, Frank Lloyd Wright, Victorian Houses, Art Deco Details) and things that make me laugh.
Guilty Pleasure: I spend a lot of time on IMDB reading the trivia for film and tv, and I have a weird hobby of finding iconic film locations when I travel. I love doing studio tours, watching extended/director commentaries of movies. I like art and logistics and learning how people put all of the pieces together to transport you on screen fascinates me. I’ve been kicking the idea of production around for a long time. I excel at chasing pieces around until something big comes together and that feels like the ultimate challenge for me.
Trend you want to keep: I’m obsessed with drive in movies, movies in the park, and I loved screening in my backyard. I’m so glad COVID restrictions made this more accessible and I hope it sticks around!
Trend you want to oust: BELT BAGS HAVE GOT TO GO. It’s a fanny pack, and it’s not cute… even with a new name and designer logos.
What’s your uniform: polka dots, pearls, red lip, jacket, and a fun bag or shoes.
Biggest Wish: for kindness, compassion, and empathy to find their way back so we can be safe and free enough to reach our full potential.
